On the Traffic Offloading in Wi-Fi Supported Heterogeneous Wireless Networks

چکیده
Heterogeneous small cell networks (HetSNet) comprise several low power, low cost (SBSa), (D2D) enabled links wireless-fidelity (Wi-Fi) access points (APs) to support the existing macrocell infrastructure, decrease over the air signaling and energy consumption, and increase network capacity, data rate and coverage. This paper presents an active user dependent path loss (PL) based traffic offloading (TO) strategy for HetSNets and a comparative study on two techniques to offload the traffic from macrocell to (SBSs) for indoor environments: PL This work was supported by NSF Award No. 1318338. To quantify the improvements, the PL based strategy against the SIR based strategy is compared while considering various macrocell and (SBS) coverage areas and traffic– types. On the other hand, offloading in a dense urban setting may result in overcrowding the (SBSs). Therefore, hybrid traffic–type driven offloading technologies such as (WiFi) and (D2D) were proposed to en route the delay tolerant applications through (WiFi) (APs) and (D2D) links. It is necessary to illustrate the impact of daily user traffic profile, (SBSs) access schemes and traffic– type while deciding how much of the traffic should be offloaded to (SBSs). In this context, (AUPF) is introduced to account for the population of active small cells which depends on the variable traffic load due to the

Mobility management through access network discovery and selection function for load balancing and power saving in software-defined networking environment
The mobile traffic has grown rapidly with the popularity of smart mobile devices. To accommodate increasing traffic, heterogeneous network integration is considered as a viable solution. By overlapping the coverage of heterogeneous networks (e.g., the long-term evolution (LTE) and Wi-Fi integrated network), the mobile operators can use the offloading service (e.g., Wi-Fi offloading) to reduce n...
متن کاملOn Practical Aspects of Mobile Data Offloading to Wi-Fi Networks
Data traffic over cellular networks is exhibiting an ongoing exponential growth, increasing by an order of magnitude every year and has already surpassed voice traffic. This increase in data traffic demand has led to a need for solutions to enhance capacity provision, whereby traffic offloading to Wi-Fi is one means that can enhance realised capacity. Though offloading to Wi-Fi networks has mat...
متن کاملTraffic Steering Framework for Mobile-Assisted Resource Management in Heterogeneous Networks
With the expected growth of mobile data traffic it is essential to manage the network resources efficiently. In order to undertake this challenge, we propose a framework for network-centric, mobile-assisted resource management, which facilitates traffic offloading from mobile network to Wi-Fi or open access small cells. A provision of desired quality of experience to the end-user is carried out...
متن کاملMobile data traffic offloading over Passpoint hotspots
Wi-Fi technology has always been an attractive solution for catering the increasing data demand inmobile networks because of the availability ofWi-Fi networks, the high bit rates they provide, and the lower cost of ownership. However, the legacyWiFi technology lacks of seamless interworking betweenWi-Fi and mobile cellular networks on the one hand, and between Wi-Fi hotspots on the other hand. ...
متن کاملA Novel Approach for Controlling Mobile Data Offloading Between 3GPP and Non-3GPP Access Networks
Mobile network traffic is growing rapidly, and service providers must manage their networks efficiently to meet consumer demand. Mobile data offloading is the use of complementary network technologies for delivering data originally targeted for cellular networks. Access network discovery and selection function (ANDSF) is the most complete 3GPP approach to date for controlling offloading between...
